Ciao! vs Friendly Reminder
Friendly Reminder, by Matt Blake
A web app from 2018 that emailed you when it was time to get back in touch with someone. You replied to the email and it saved what you wrote as a note.
Closed. Its domain was taken over in 2019 and no longer loads. It was a web app, launched on Product Hunt in April 2018.

F What Friendly Reminder did well
- •Logging was a reply. You answered the reminder email, and what you wrote became a note.
- •Each email brought your notes from last time, a birthday if one was close, and a link straight to their number or Facebook chat.
- •Nothing to install. It ran in any browser, and the reminders came to your inbox.
Where Ciao! wins
- •No account and no server of its own. Your notes stay on your phone and in your own iCloud.
- •Your inbox stays out of it. The reminder is one notification on Sunday with everyone who is due.
- •Logging is a swipe right on the friend’s card.
Which one should you actually get?
Friendly Reminder closed years ago. If you liked getting a nudge and saving a note in the same step, Ciao! does that on iPhone: swipe right, and the note for that friend is right there. If you want something that works in a browser on your computer, Ciao! cannot do that.
